With this post I will tell you the story of how Aegis Aurea was born.
Aegis is a large project, and it's not hard to lose the compass of all possible stories that can be set. I believe that having an idea of what the story behind this setting can help to have a best sense of perspective.
The story begins in 2001. At the time I was in senior year without too much effort and most of my free time was spent between sports and role-playing games. I had regular campaigns, all Epic Fantasy, set in a world created by me called Illivan. Walking down the street and thinking about what stories we can tell, it occurred to me a picture quite catastrophic. A modern disastata room from a fight, a huge track on land due to a spell that destroys all along the way and, at the end of the path, a girl lying against the wall like a doll, with her head on the wall exploded. A young COP capable of using magic in panic. The girl was just over in the middle of the fight between him and a magician, and was killed by his spell.
There was no setting, no context, only one birth diorama from my sick imagination (is a liet-motif in the future, you will also notice by reading the manual). Taken to toying with the idea rather than listening to a lecture, weaving a draft setting in order to write the story.
The Italy of the future, in which magic was possible but illegal. A police force, NOAM, tasked with stopping at all costs the magicians. He was born the first skeleton of Aegis.
I wrote the entire story and published online, on the website of RPGs that I used at the time, the core, under the pseudonym Amisis. The story had some success and many asked to formalize the setting to be able to play.
Unfortunately at the time I had already begun to attend college and was a valuable asset. While continuing to daydream and write, I experienced a game set in Aegis Aurea until the first year of degree, in 2005. Meanwhile I had already discussed several times with my group of stable weather game: Emanuele, Ruffo, Valerio, Lorenzo and Michael. Eventually experienced the game, setting stories based on NOAM where the group, composed of investigators and outside helpers, investigating various crimes of magical nature. By the time the scene grew, the stories became more varied and extensive, less and less linked to the initial idea.
After a decade of game, Aegis Aurea has become a creature in its own right. Do not write, I discover.
The writing of the manual has been slow and fraught with problems, but eventually arrived at a version that we believe are ready for fire proof: you players out there. I hope you have fun with this creature as much as we enjoyed ourselves.
